NDSU not worried about architecture competition

Officials at North Dakota State University say they’re not worried about architecture competition from South Dakota State. SDSU plans to launch an architecture program in fall 2010 so aspiring architects no longer have to leave the state for training.

FARGO (AP) — Officials at North Dakota State University say they’re not worried about architecture competition from South Dakota State.

SDSU plans to launch an architecture program in fall 2010 so aspiring architects no longer have to leave the state for training.

Officials at NDSU said they welcome the competition, and believe they will be able to hold their ground as one of the best programs in the region.

South Dakota students do not make up much of the enrollment in NDSU’s architecture and landscape architecture program. Registrar Kristi Wold-McCormick said of the 502 students enrolled so far for the coming fall, only 12 are from South Dakota.

However, 335 of the students are from Minnesota. NDSU officials say they could see a greater impact if students from southern and western Minnesota opt to go to SDSU.
