GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The Red River Basin Commission is meeting in Grand Forks to formally begin talking about long-term flood solutions.
Thursday's meeting is the first step in a $1 million project to develop a comprehensive plan to address flooding in the Red River Basin. The states of North Dakota and Minnesota each are supplying half of the funding.
The commission is made up of 30 members from the two states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. It has until mid-January to provide a report to the Minnesota Legislature. The North Dakota Legislature does not reconvene until 2011.
