County engineer Keith Berndt said county officials have submitted one application with 18 homes and will submit another list of 25 homes. He said more homes could be added.

FARGO (AP) — More than 40 homes are being designated for a Cass County flood buyout program at a cost of more than $12 million — and counting.

The list goes to state and federal officials for review.

County engineer Keith Berndt said county officials have submitted one application with 18 homes and will submit another list of 25 homes. He said more homes could be added.

Berndt said some property owners are frustrated by a Fargo permit moratorium that bars them from making repairs. He said county officials will ask the city to work with the property owners so they can live in homes until buyouts are approved.

Berndt also said federal officials have yet to set a timeline for approving the buyout applications. He said county officials will pressure the Federal Emergency Management Agency to do that.
