NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) — The president of the National Congress of American Indians is making a visit to North Dakota's Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.
Joe Garcia has been president of the group since 2005, when he succeeded then-Three Affiliated Tribes chairman Tex Hall. Fort Berthold is home to the tribes.
Garcia was scheduled to visit Friday and Saturday. He planned to meet with tribal officials and take in a powwow.
The National Congress of American Indians represents more than 500 federally recognized tribes. Garcia is a member of the Ohkay Owingeh (OH'-kay oh-WEENG'-eh) tribe, formerly the San Juan Pueblo, in New Mexico.
