Thirteen members of the James-Valley Special Operations unit responded to a report of a man barricaded in a home in Oakes, N.D., Sunday, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

The Oakes Police Department requested the assistance of the James-Valley unit around 7 a.m. Sunday. James River Correctional Center negotiators also responded.

The James-Valley Special Operations unit consists of members from the James-town and Valley City police departments.

Three children ages 6, 3, and 2, were reportedly in the home along with the man.

According to police, the incident resulted from a domestic disturbance. The wife was forced out of the home, police said, and the re-sponding Oakes police were threatened with a shotgun.

After hours of negotiations, the man gave himself up around 3 p.m., police said.

The suspect, Francisco Castro, 36, was taken into custody and turned over to Oakes police.

The shotgun was seized. No shots were fired and no one was injured, police said.

The children were released to their mother.

Formal charges against Castro are pending in Dickey County.
