Meetings held on Lake Oahe plan

BISMARCK (AP) — The Corps of Engineers is holding a series of meetings in the Dakotas to help the agency revise and update the master plan for Lake Oahe.

The plan guides the development and management of land-based natural and cultural resources, as well as recreation facilities. It does not address management of water levels. The current plan was prepared in 1962.

One of the public meetings was held in Bismarck on Monday night. Lake manager Phillip Sheffield from Pierre, S.D., said the corps wants to know what people want and need to use the lake. He said the agency is looking for comments on such things as parking, fish cleaning stations and campgrounds.

Sheffield said the corps hopes to have the updated master plan for Oahe ready by the end of the year.
