Minnesota Renaissance Festival kicks off Saturday

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) — Once again, an area near Shakopee will be transformed into a 16th century village as the Minnesota Renaissance Festival opens Saturday.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) — Once again, an area near Shakopee will be transformed into a 16th century village as the Minnesota Renaissance Festival opens Saturday.

The festival runs weekends and Labor Day through Oct. 4.

This is the 39th season of the Renaissance Festival, which draws an annual crowd of 275,000.

The festival includes more than 500 entertainers, 275 craftspeople and 120 food booths selling everything from turkey legs to spinach pie.

Opening weekend will feature the third annual Minnesota State Belly Dance Competition as well as a national bird show.
