PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Storms in central South Dakota spawned funnel clouds and led to flash flooding.
A flood watch posted by the National Weather Service remained in effect Wednesday morning for the northeastern part of the state.
Heavy rains drenched the Hughes, Stanley and Sully County areas overnight. Small hail also was reported.
There were reports of water over county roads and crop damage in the Harrold area.
Bill Newling with the Hughes County Emergency Management Office says three funnel clouds were sighted by trained spotters in the Spring Creek and Oahe Acres areas north of Pierre and east of Blunt, though the twisters apparently did not touch down.
