Applications being accepted for judge

BISMARCK (AP) — The North Dakota Supreme Court says a judicial nominating committee is taking applications for a new state district judge position based in Minot.

The Legislature earlier this year created the position.

The committee will be accepting applications at the State Bar Association of North Dakota office in Bismarck until the close of business on Sept. 3. Interviews will be scheduled the week of Oct. 5.

The committee eventually will give Gov. John Hoeven a list of candidates. Hoeven then will have thirty days to name a judge.

Lawmakers also approved a new judge position that will be chambered in Jamestown, to help deal with an increasing caseload. That will bring the number to 44 district judges in seven judicial districts in the state.
