Verizon Wireless has been recognized for the “Highest Call Quality Performance Among Wireless Cell Phone Users in the West Region,” which includes North Dakota, in the J.D. Power and Associates’ 2009 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study, Volume 2, released Thursday. Alltel was also recognized in the West Area in a three-way tie with Verizon Wireless and another carrier.

The J.D. Power and Associates study measures call quality among the major U.S. wireless service providers based on seven problem areas that impact overall carrier performance. More than 24,000 wireless phone subscribers were surveyed in the first half of the year about their experience with dropped call, static/interference, failed connection on the first try, voice distortion, echoes, no immediate voice mail notification and no immediate text message notification. Based on the results, Verizon Wireless ranked highest in the West Region in a three-way tie with Alltel and another wireless carrier. Verizon Wireless also ranked highest in four other regions in the study.

Nationally, Verizon Wireless’ real-life test men and women drive more than 90 specially equipped vehicles almost 1 million miles annually testing Verizon Wireless’ network and the networks of other carriers.

In North Dakota, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $160 million since 2001 on new cell sites and other improvements.
