Adolph Alfred Weight, 91, LaMoure, N.D., formerly of Jamestown

Adolph Alfred Weight, 91, LaMoure, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure.

Mr. Weight was born April 4, 1918, at Marion, N.D., the son of Jakob and Maria (Wuttke) Weight. He grew up on the family farm. On Feb. 2, 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in January 1946. He returned to North Dakota and worked for Otter Tail Power Co. in Jamestown until 1974. He married Hattie Boelter on May 22, 1943, at St. John’s parsonage, Jamestown. They moved to Milbank, S.D., where he worked for Otter Tail as a control room operator until his retirement in 1980. She died June 13, 2000. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, volunteered at that church, delivered Meals on Wheels and newspapers and was a Scoutmaster for six years. He enjoyed woodworking, making bird houses, bird watching, yardwork, crossword puzzles, fishing and watching baseball.

He is survived by two sons, Larry (Jani), Anoka, Minn., and Jim (Candice), Jamestown; a brother, Wilfred, Seattle, Wash., two sisters, Leona Day, Seattle, and Francis Reid, Maple Grove, Minn.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Harlan Kaden officiating.

Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

Memorials: in lieu of flowers, to Jamestown Hospital Hospice.
