DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of torching three vehicles in Dickinson has been sentenced to five years in prison, after tearfully trying to talk the judge out of jail time.
Thirty-two-year-old Sonny Wanner was convicted of criminal mischief in June for setting fires to the vehicles in April 2008. Authorities said damage exceeded $10,000. Restitution will be set later.
Defense attorney Travis Finck asked for probation, and Wanner spoke to Southwest District Judge William Herauf for more than 20 minutes, maintaining his innocence.
Herauf told Wanner he could not talk his way out of the conviction.
