Flood cleanup begins in Sawyer
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began flood cleanup work in Sawyer, N.D., and Barnes County Tuesday and anticipates being done by the middle of next week, weather permitting. Work in Sawyer, N.D., consists of removing clay material added to the top of a permanent flood levee during the spring flood fight. The Corps awarded a $70,750 contract on Friday, to Harvey Sand and Gravel of Harvey, N.D., to complete this work.

The Corps awarded a $143,420 contract on Friday to Swanberg Construction of Valley City, N.D. This work involves the Woodland Park levee in Barnes County. It does not involve emergency levees installed nearby in Valley City, which are also slated for removal. The Valley City work will be completed under another contract. The bid solicitation for this contract is posted on the FedBizOpps.gov Web site at www.fbo.gov.
The Corps of Engineers has been tasked by the Federal Emergency Management Agency with the removal of temporary flood protection measures used during the spring flood fight in the Red River of the North river basin. Local communities had until August to request this type of assistance.
