An unattended candle was the cause of a fire that burned a bedroom at 420 Eighth St. S.W. Saturday afternoon, said Jim Reuther, fire chief.
The Jamestown Fire Department responded to the call at about 3:50 p.m. and was on the scene for about two hours, he said.
No injuries were reported in the blaze but Reuther said one bedroom was completely burned and the basement and half of the upstairs sustained smoke damage. He estimated the amount of damage between $10,000 and $15,000.
Two pumper trucks and two equipment trucks responded to the blaze along with 21 firefighters, Reuther said.
“It was a good stop,” said Gordie Christianson, deputy fire chief. “The guys did a good job going in putting the fire out.”
