Pray for faithful Christians in ELCA congregations

In my most recent letter to the editor, which appeared on Sept. 1, my sole intent was to give a clear explanation of the teaching of Holy Scripture regarding homosexuality within the word limits allowed to any letter to the editor.

In my most recent letter to the editor, which appeared on Sept. 1, my sole intent was to give a clear explanation of the teaching of Holy Scripture regarding homosexuality within the word limits allowed to any letter to the editor.

However, my intent for this letter is to stress that there are many faithful Christians — pastors and lay people within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America — who do not support the recent decision of their national church body regarding the issue of homosexuality. There are many faithful Christians in the ELCA congregations of our community who wish to be a faithful witness within their denomination. We should keep them in our prayers and we should encourage them. They need our love and support as they strive to speak God’s truth in love within their denomination.

The Rev. Tom Eckstein
