Letter to the editor: Liechty should explain her comments on illegal aliens

I write in response to Mayor Clarice Liechty’s statement at an Aug. 21 town hall meeting that illegal immigrants in the U.S. need health care, according to The Jamestown Sun. Maybe she can explain this to the family of Nick Erfle. Erfle was born and raised in Fessenden, N.D. He, his wife and two young sons lived in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was a police officer. He fought cancer for four years and returned to duty as an officer. He was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant.

Maybe she can explain this to the American taxpayer. There are an estimated 20 million illegals and more coming each day. They use our schools and our hospitals and in many cases our welfare and social services, all at an enormous cost. Illegals invest in a form of apartheid, quite unlike prior immigrants who created this nation by rapidly assimilating into the American culture. All children born to illegals on these shores are incomprehensibly considered citizens of the United States from the moment of their birth. This is due to a misinterpretation of the U.S. Constitution, the 14th Amendment, which was designed to confirm that black Americans were and deserved to be citizens of the country. Australia, England and Ireland have eliminated birthright citizenship. America is the only major nation that clings to this distorted policy. For uninsured poor Americans, the red tap is enormous and frustrating. But for Mexican illegals giving birth in our hospitals, nothing is too good. They receive free prenatal care, medications, nutrition, birthing classes, baby formula, car seats, milk bottles and diapers.

A report in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons notes that illegal aliens coming into the U.S. are forcing the closure of many hospitals. In California alone 84 hospitals are closing their doors as a result of the rising number of illegal aliens.

Several attempts to repeal the citizen birthright claim have failed to even come to a vote. American politicians seem determined to maintain this abuse, despite pressure from their constituents. For Republicans it seems they want to appease employers who enjoy the low wages of illegals. For the Democrats, illegals provide the possibility of more votes for their party.

Reminds me of how the Senate has ignored the American people on the Hate Crime Act. Thank you to all who sent more than 1 million messages opposing this bill. It was unable to pass on its own. You would think that would be the end of it? Think again! They are hiding it under the Department Defense Authorization Act for 2010. Now I ask who can vote against our military?

It is time for change! Let’s start with our politicians.
