Man sentenced to 30 years on child porn charges

A northeastern North Dakota man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually exploiting a child and possessing child pornography.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A northeastern North Dakota man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually exploiting a child and possessing child pornography.

Laurence Pelletier, Jr., of Drayton, pleaded guilty to the charges in May. He was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson.

Authorities said a 7-year-old girl reported being molested by Pelletier and a search of his computers found child pornography, including an image produced by him that involved a 15-month-old child.

Assistant U. S. Attorney Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl said it ``epitomizes the darkest side of human behavior.'

Authorities said the case was part of a national effort started in May 2006 to fight child abuse.
