AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — The space shuttle Discovery is refueling in Texas as part of its cross-country flight to Florida.
The shuttle is being ferried atop a modified 747 aircraft, known as a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. It landed from space earlier this month in California.
The shuttle refueled Sunday at Amarillo's international airport, greeted by dozens of well-wishers and space enthusiasts.
It left Amarillo at 2:17 p.m. EDT, then stopped in Fort Worth at 3:15 EDT. It is expected to stay overnight at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, La.
The shuttle should reach Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday.
Discovery landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California on Sept. 11 after completing a two-week, 5.7-million mile mission to the international space station.
