Letter to the editor: Socialists unfair to insurance companies

The socialists want socialized medicine or Sen. Kent Conrad’s, D-N.D., socialized medicine co-ops. They are smearing insurance companies with false claims.

Insurance companies lack the power to ration health care. They can deny claims, but policyholders can still get those services if they pay themselves.

It’s illegal for some hospitals to turn anyone away who cannot pay, and insurance companies cannot stop hospitals from treating anyone.

In nations with socialized medicine, government has the power to ration health care. People are frequently denied life-saving services. These people cannot get treated in their country even if they pay themselves. It’s the death sentence. Many times their fate is determined because it takes months to see a doctor. When they need their universal health care the most, many learn that they were taxed into poverty to pay for empty promises.

Everyone in America today has health care. President Barack Obama’s plan cannot possibly provide health care to anyone who doesn’t already have it. The Democrats want control over our lives and one sixth of our economy. They know that a public option or co-op will eventually give them everything they want.

We are about to trade our prosperity and freedom for poverty and the empty promises of socialism over a lie. If this passes, we will be telling our children and grandchildren about what a great, free and prosperous nation this once was. We will never be able to go back to what our founding fathers gave us and to what our veterans fought, bled and died for.
