Edinburg, Valley schools closer to merger

The Edinburg and Valley school districts in northeastern North Dakota have taken another step toward consolidation. The Pembina County School Reorganization Committee on Monday night approved the proposed reorganization plan.

CAVALIER, N.D. (AP) — The Edinburg and Valley school districts in northeastern North Dakota have taken another step toward consolidation.

The Pembina County School Reorganization Committee on Monday night approved the proposed reorganization plan.

Edinburg Superintendent Andrew Currie said that if the state School Reorganization Committee approves the plan when it meets on Oct. 26, it would go to a public vote in both school districts on Nov. 15.

Declining student enrollment and difficulties with teacher recruitment and retention are driving the proposal. Both schools have about 140 students in grades kindergarten through 12.
