Comment extended for refinery

Federal officials are extending the public comment period on an environmental statement on a proposed oil refinery on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

BISMARCK (AP) — Federal officials are extending the public comment period on an environmental statement on a proposed oil refinery on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

The comment period was to have expired this week. The Environmental Protection Agency and Bureau of Indian Affairs on Friday said it was being extended until Oct. 28.

The proposed Three Affiliated Tribes refinery near Makoti, in the reservation’s northeastern corner, would process pre-refined tar sand oil from Canada into fuel.
