BISMARCK (AP) — Three attorneys have been picked as finalists for a new North Dakota district judgeship in Minot.
A screening committee voted to recommend Minot lawyers William Bergman and Todd Cresap and Ward County prosecutor Kelly Dillon for the opening. Seven lawyers applied for the judgeship.
Gov. John Hoeven will make the appointment later. His pick will become the seventh judge in the Northwest District. The district includes six counties and the cities of Minot and Williston in northwestern North Dakota.
Earlier this year, the Legislature agreed to put new district judges in the Southeast and Northwest judicial districts. The new southeastern judge will be based in Jamestown.
District judges handle criminal and civil trials and an assortment of other court proceedings. The job pays $113,648 annually.
