Discussion on hunger planned
Bread for the World Regional Director Tammy Walhof will lead an ecumenical Hunger and Justice Roundtable Discussion at Martin’s Lutheran Church in Casselton, N.D., at 10 a.m. Saturday, sponsored by the Eastern North Dakota’s ELCA Synod Hunger and Justice Committee.

Before the economic crisis, people were receiving half a cup of food a day, and because they were receiving better nutrition they were able to focus on other efforts like education and establishing ways to earn a living. Between 1990 and 2005 there was a substantial decrease in the amount of people living in extreme poverty from 1.8 billion to 1.4 billion, but that progress is being wiped out, Walhof said
All are welcome to come and learn about the efforts, progress and obstacles that are being met in eliminating extreme poverty and hunger around the world, and to take part in a discussion about why and how people can support meaningful, efficient international aid from right where they are by spreading awareness, and advocating legislation that empowers the people in the world’s most vulnerable regions.
