James “Jim” Carlascio will receive the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Award Thursday after the North Dakota Chamber membership meeting at the Jamestown chamber office.
The award is one of the chamber’s highest honors and is being presented in recognition of the spirit of service and support Carlascio brings to the community of Jamestown. Dave MacIver, president of the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce, will make the presentation.
“James is deeply appreciated for his service to the Jamestown community and to the state of North Dakota,” MacIver said. “His dedication to our state’s veterans is truly inspiring.”
A lifetime resident of Jamestown, Carlascio left the area only to serve in the Army. Over the years, he has been a dedicated supporter of veteran affairs and is a former commander of the Disabled American Veterans chapter in Jamestown. He often speaks to school-aged children about his experience in the military and visits the Veterans Home in Lisbon.
MacIver highlights Carlascio’s efforts to promote and fundraise for the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of Fort Seward and his role in bringing the Flags Across America site to Jamestown. He was also instrumental in bringing the Veterans Clinic to Jamestown Hospital and represented North Dakota on the first World War II Memorial flight to Washington, D.C.
