Inauguration set for Standing Rock officials
New leaders are being installed on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.
FORT YATES, N.D. (AP) — New leaders are being installed on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.
Newly elected Chairman Charles Murphy, along with elected tribal council officers, district representatives and school board members are being sworn in at a ceremony starting shortly before noon.
Murphy was elected last month to his sixth term as chairman since 1983. In the latest election, he beat out Ron His Horse Is Thunder, who served one term.
The reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
