Microsoft CEO talks in Fargo

Microsoft’s chief executive officer says Fargo has the company’s third-largest presence in the United States behind Seattle and the Silicon Valley. Steve Ballmer was in Fargo on Tuesday, two days before the launch of Windows 7, Microsoft’s new Windows operating system, to meet with the local and state officials for a business update.

FARGO (AP) — Microsoft’s chief executive officer says Fargo has the company’s third-largest presence in the United States behind Seattle and the Silicon Valley.

Steve Ballmer was in Fargo on Tuesday, two days before the launch of Windows 7, Microsoft’s new Windows operating system, to meet with the local and state officials for a business update.

Ballmer said Fargo is an important place for Microsoft and calls it an “efficient, cost-effective place to do business.” He said the company has about 1,000 full-time employees and about 500 contractors in the area.

Ballmer told a noon luncheon that the technology sector can drive the next wave of productivity and bring services to rural areas.
