A woman has been sentenced to 6½ years in prison for stabbing her boyfriend to death.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A woman has been sentenced to 6½ years in prison for stabbing her boyfriend to death.
Rebecca Brown of Fort Totten was sentenced Thursday on a voluntary manslaughter charge.
Authorities said the 49-year-old Brown stabbed 36-year-old Derek Longie in the chest with a knife, during ``a sudden quarrel and heat of passion.' It happened in January on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.
At her sentencing hearing Thursday in Fargo, Brown was ordered to pay for Longie's funeral expenses, including $6,500 to the Spirit Lake tribe and nearly $2,000 to Longie's mother.
The charge of voluntary manslaughter applies in cases where the crime is considered intentional but not premeditated.
