MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — Mandan officials are studying how to reconstruct a nearly 2½-mile road known as ``The Strip' that has heavy traffic and also dozens of business turnoffs.
Officials plan a public meeting next month on the Mandan Memorial Highway Corridor Study. It is to involve roadway improvement options, traffic counts and future land use plans of undeveloped areas.
Bob Shannon with Kadrmas, Lee and Jackson says the arterial roadway is unique because there are many businesses and driveways along the route. He says an arterial street's purpose is to get drivers through a community, but in the case of The Strip there are more than 100 driveways.
The cost of improving the road is not known. Shannon says there must be a balance between safely managing traffic and meeting business needs.
