The Jamestown Rural Fire Department purchased a new water truck this month, replacing a 32-year old unit it retired this fall.
The new, 2,000-gallon water truck carries a 380-gallon-per-minute water pump hooked to multiple discharge lines, said Brian Paulson, firefighter. The 2008 GMC Chassis can also draft from a remote water source. The department purchased it from Heiman Fire Equipment in Sioux Falls, S.D.
City fire departments typically hook to fire hydrants whereas rural fire departments haul water with them.
The department spent $122,000 on the truck, including $15,000 it raised during a ice fishing tournament held in March.
The next tournament ice fishing tournament is set for Feb. 20.
