Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

Allmer, a freshman on the JHS cross country team, placed fourth at the Class A state meet in Valley City Oct. 24. It was the best finish for a Blue Jay runner since 2000.

Piatz, a senior wide receiver/linebacker, was named the East Region’s Senior Athlete of the Year. Piatz had 46 catches for 703 yards and six touchdowns for the Blue Jays. He also had one interception, three sacks and two tackles-for-loss.

Sluik, a sophomore from Mason City, Iowa, on the JC women’s wrestling team, won seven of her eight matches last week, capturing the silver medal at the prestigious Dina Open Wrestling Meet in Calgary, Alberta.

Sandness, a junior linebacker from LaMoure on the Jimmie football team, was in on 15 tackles in their win at Black Hills State Oct. 24. Sandness had seven unassisted tackles and eight assisted tackles.
