BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota man says his son was wounded in the side by bullet fragments during the shooting rampage at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas.
Patrick Blue Jr., of Belcourt, said his 23-year-old son, Patrick Blue III, a sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division stationed at Fort Hood, was trying to get away from the shooting when he was wounded Thursday. Blue’s father said his son was treated and released and was back at his apartment Friday night.
The elder Blue said his son has been in therapy for stress after being deployed twice to Iraq. He said his son did not know the alleged shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, except in passing but was “pretty shook up” after the shooting and unsure whether he would go back to therapy.
Among those killed was a Williston native, 56-year-old Capt. John Gaffaney. He was a psychiatric nurse who worked for San Diego County, Calif.
