Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

Erin Hart and Kaitlin Walsh from Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Ali Edwards and Aaron Field have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club. Walsh, a senior diver for the Blue Jays, won the West Region championship in Minot on Saturday with a score of 383.10, earning her second-team all-state honors. She also was named all-West Region.

Walsh, a senior diver for the Blue Jays, won the West Region championship in Minot on Saturday with a score of 383.10, earning her second-team all-state honors. She also was named all-West Region.

Hart, a sophomore on the JHS swimming and diving team, placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.88) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:17.53) at the West Region meet. She also swam the anchor legs on the Jays’ fourth-place 400 freestyle relay team and fifth place 200 medley team. She has already qualified for first team all-state and was named all-West Region.

Edwards, a senior from West Fargo on the JC volleyball team, had 18 kills, 15 digs and five blocks in two wins over Valley City State, to close out the regular season, and the Jimmies’ opening-round playoff win over Dakota State. The Jimmies host Black Hills State in the championship Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Field, a junior on the Jimmie men’s wrestling team from Pelican Rapids, Minn., placed fourth in the heavyweight division at the Daktronics Open Meet in Brookings, S.D., and qualified for the national meet.
