UND, arena set fan code

The University of North Dakota and the Ralph Engelstad Arena say they will enforce a new fan code of conduct that bans offensive messages on signs or clothing and includes a help line to report bad behavior during men’s hockey games.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — The University of North Dakota and the Ralph Engelstad Arena say they will enforce a new fan code of conduct that bans offensive messages on signs or clothing and includes a help line to report bad behavior during men’s hockey games.

The rules were announced Thursday by UND athletic director Brian Faison, who said they came after discussions with hockey ticket holders and students. Faison said the school also plans sportsmanship videos on the scoreboard, and efforts to control alcohol abuse.

The code of conduct says fans shall not interfere with the rights of others to enjoy the game and shall not throw things. It says drinking must be done in a responsible way and offensive or obscene messages on signs or clothing are prohibited.

People can contact a guest help line to report violations.

Fans who violate the code may be ejected and may face arrest or prosecution.
