JFD responds to carbon monoxide incident

The Ready Squad of the Jamestown Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide incident at 819 Second Avenue Southwest at just before 1:30 this morning. Firefighters were on the scene until nearly 3 a.m.

An apartment tenant reported the incident.

“One or two of the tenants had carbon monoxide detectors and that’s what alerted them,” said Jim Reuther, fire chief. “The building was evacuated but the tenants were allowed to return after the heating system was shut down and the building was ventilated.”

Reuther said readings of as high as 185 parts per million of carbon monoxide were found in the furnace room of the building. Carbon monoxide detectors usually trigger an alarm at 30 to 35 parts per million.
