N.D. police to dispose of prescription meds
Police departments in North Dakota's four largest cities plan to establish sites to help people dispose of leftover prescription drugs.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Police departments in North Dakota's four largest cities plan to establish sites to help people dispose of leftover prescription drugs.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the program will help keep the drugs out of the hands of young people. Stenehjem says a recent survey indicated 15 percent of North Dakota's high school students have abused prescription drugs at least once.
Stenehjem says police stations in Minot, Bismarck, Grand Forks and Fargo will be setting up disposal bins for prescription drugs in their lobbies next week.
The attorney general says North Dakotans are already told not to flush leftover drugs or throw them in the trash. He says the new effort will provide a safe way to get rid of the drugs, and help tamp down a growing prescription drug abuse problem among young people.
