Music/Drama/ Comedy

“Cold Feet,” a musical presented by the Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts, is at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 20 at The Opera House in New Rockford. Tickets are $19 and seats can be reserved by calling 701-947-2174 or can be purchased online at www. dprca.com.

Christmas at St. Catherine’s, presented by the Valley City State University Department of Music, is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City. There is no admission charge, but freewill offerings for music scholarships will be accepted.

A voice recital, presented by Jamestown College students Bob Heinzen, Kelsey Rasmuson and Jenna Skeldum, is at 7 p.m. Friday in Voorhees Chapel on the JC campus. There is no admission charge.

A holiday concert, presented by Valley Voices Women’s Choir, Yuletide Tubas and the Valley City Civic Orchestra, is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Froemke Auditorium on the Valley City State University campus. There is no admission charge.

A band Christmas concert, presented by the Jamestown College Jazz Band and Chamber Ensembles, is at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Reiland Fine Arts Center’s DeNault Auditorium. There is no admission charge.

“Becoming Juliet,” a comedy presented by the Jamestown High School Drama Department, is at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the JHS Theater. Tickets at the door are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Two recitals by the Valley City State University Community School of Arts are at 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in Froemke Auditorium on the VCSU campus in Valley City. A reception follows each recital. There is no admission charge.

Special Events

The Holiday Home Tour is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday with a reception from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Arts Center. Featured homes are Carol Trautman, 1108 Fourth Ave. N.E., Brian and Barb Lunde, above Buffalo City Grille, Dwaine and Joyce Heinrich, 114 First Ave. N. upstairs, and Mike and Michelle Neumiller, 2112 Fifth St. N.E. Tickets are $10 per person available at the Garden Gate or the Arts Center.

Celebration of Lights, honoring individuals with mental illness with music and a tree lighting, is at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Lahaug Building gym at the State Hospital. Refreshments will be served. There is no admission charge.

The Annual Holiday Event, featuring the Choralaires, refreshments and a tour of the decorated Putnam House, is from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Putnam House in Carrington. Admission is $7 per person. For more information, contact Alison at 701-652-2090 or alison@daktel .com.

Sertoma’s Christmas in the Park opens Friday in McElroy Park in Jamestown. The exhibit of lighted displays is open from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 25. Admission is $2 a person or $5 for a car.

Around Town

Syttende Mai, a Norwegian celebration canceled last May, is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum in Valley City. Ethnic food demonstrations and jam sessions are featured. Admission is a freewill donation.

Public swimming, sponsored by Jamestown Parks and Rec, is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays at Jamestown High School. There is no admission charge. The walking track is open from 6 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday at Jamestown High School when school is in session. Use the main entrance. For more information, call 952-4003.

Open Mic Night, hosted by local musician John Crowston, is from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Babb’s Coffee House. The open session is available to anyone wanting to perform.

Museums/ Libraries/etc.

National Buffalo Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sundays by appointment. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and AAA members, $10 for a family and $1 for children ages 6 to 18.

Alfred Dickey Public Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. To access the Story Line, call 252-7464.

The Arts Center, located at 115 Second St. S.W., Jamestown, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission charge.

The Putnam House in Carrington is open for special events and by appointment by calling 701-652-2090. There is no admission charge.

The Barnes County Historical Museum, 315 Central Ave. N., Valley City, is open year round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is a freewill donation.

Art

Arts After Work is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the Arts Center. The class on Monday is Calligraphy. Cost: $5 for Arts Center members and $7 for others.

Bits and Pieces, an exhibit of artwork and writing by Sue Morrissey and Mike Morrissey, is on display through Saturday at the Arts Center. There is no admission charge.
