Holiday traffic tickets up in N.D.

North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers issued just under 1,700 tickets over the Thanksgiving holiday period, up about 300 from the previous year.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers issued just under 1,700 tickets over the Thanksgiving holiday period, up about 300 from the previous year.

Lt. Jody Skogen said the increase likely is due to more traffic because of the nice weather and stepped-up enforcement efforts.

Two-thirds of the tickets were for speeding. There were 47 arrests for driving under the influence.

Two people died on North Dakota roads over the long weekend.
