Suspect in infant death seeks plea agreement

A man accused of killing a child in Fargo when he got drunk and passed out on top of her is seeking a plea agreement.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of killing a child in Fargo when he got drunk and passed out on top of her is seeking a plea agreement.

Police accuse 46-year-old Arthur Berger of passing out on the 2-month-old daughter of friends, Valencia Johnson and George Schultz, while baby-sitting the child.

Berger on Thursday pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and child abuse or neglect. His attorney, Daniel Gast, says he does not expect the case to go to trial.

Gast and prosecutor Cherie Clark say they have discussed a plea deal but have not yet reached one.
