The North Dakota House of Representatives approved a bill Friday that provides $9.97 million in grants for Stutsman Rural Water District’s expansion project. The vote was 85 in favor with 3 no votes and six absent or not voting.

Hearing set on grant for Stutsman Rural Water District

A hearing on a House bill to grant nearly $10 million to Stutsman Rural Water District is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the North Dakota Capitol. If the bill passes, the grant would allow Stutsman Rural Water to proceed with an expansion planned for this summer.

Sales tax bill would give some funds to counties

A bill to bring more North Dakota sales tax money back to the local counties may be in the works, according to Sen. John Grabinger, D-Jamestown. The bill would require using the funds for infrastructure. Grabinger is working to gain support for a bill to return 1.5 percent of the 5 percent sales tax collected by the state to the county where it was collected.

Mobile home taxes jump

Stutsman County residents who live in older double wide mobile homes got a surprise when they opened their 2013 tax statement this month. Changes in the formula used to calculate values used to determine taxes resulted in tax increases for many people.

Storm watch: 4 to 8 inches of snow possible in Jamestown area

The low-pressure system is still over the Pacific Ocean but the National Weather Service has already issued a winter storm watch for much of North Dakota beginning Thursday. The weather system, if it follows its anticipated track, could bring the first shot of severe winter weather of the season to the Jamestown area.

They continue their normal, day-to-day lives and jobs while attending meetings and making the decisions that manage the governments of the area. They earn a wide variety of wages for those tasks.
