Other views: Harvest goes well in Red River Valley

It’s always risky to count bushels before they are in the bin, but if fall weather is any indicator, harvest in the Red River Valley of the North looks very promising. Small grains have been off the fields for a while. Yields were generally good. Harvest of the valley’s other major crops, including sugar beets, soybeans and corn, is either under way or not too far off in the future. Sugar beet lifting and hauling shifted into high gear on Friday. Initial reports from the pre-harvest suggest tons-per-acre yields will be record-setting for American Crystal Sugar Co. of Moorhead and Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative of Wahpeton, N.D.
