Minot hosting rodeo Oct. 7-10
On Oct. 7-10, the State Fair Center in Minot will host the Dodge Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo. Rodeo fans will see competitors in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association’s Badlands Circuit exhibit their skills and compete for the title of Badlands champions.

The 27th annual Fort Ransom Sodbuster Days are Sept. 11-12, with events the whole family can enjoy in the Sheyenne River Valley at Fort Ransom State Park.
Performing Arts Series opens Oct. 3 with jazz
An exciting season for Jamestown’s autumn 2010 fine arts begins this month. In addition to a 2 p.m. grand opening reception on Sunday, Sept. 19, in the Reiland Art Gallery, the Performing Arts Series opens Oct. 3 with Jazz Arts Big Band. The summer show opens Sunday with a reception sponsored by the Friends of the Fine Arts and Jamestown College. Summer art students will display work and several will discuss their work.
Unison displays Drenth artwork
Unison Bank is featuring the artwork of Brock Drenth for the month of September. Drenth was born in Jamestown in 1981. Encouraged by an early emphasis in art education, he began his studies with Gordon Lucht, learning the basic fundamentals of painting and drawing.

The third production staged by the Arts Center’s community theater program 2nd ACT is described not as a comedy, but as a farce. The play is called “Drinking Habits” and it’s set to amuse dinner theater audiences Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 23-25, at the Arts Center. “This is a farce which takes place in a convent,” said Lori Dorr, its director.

Music festival honoring Westin set for Sept. 5
A music festival will be held in Medora on Sunday, Sept. 5, to honor the late Wade Westin. Westin was well-known Medora Musical cast member. He was the marketing director for the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation when he died suddenly in February 2009.
Block party tonight in downtown Jamestown
They’re back! Yep, all the Jamestown College students who have been away all summer will be back tonight along with the incoming freshmen to meet downtown for a block party.
Front Porch Chat featuring Burchill
Tim Burchill will deliver a Front Porch Chat at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Stutsman County Memorial Museum. He will speak on a topic related to North Dakota history and will also provide musical entertainment to close out the 2010 series of chats.
Whittier work on display at Capitol
The North Dakota Council on the Arts, along with the offices of Gov. John Hoeven and first lady Mikey Hoeven, is exhibiting the works of Lidgerwood artist Rick Whittier at the Capitol Building in Bismarck during August and September. Whittier’s works are on display in the governor’s ground floor and first floor offices, the first lady’s fourth floor office, and the attorney general’s first floor office.
Métisfest at Peace Garden
The International Métisfest is today through Sunday at the International Peace Garden. Dan Goodon has been working closely with American Co-organizers Stuart Medrud and Terry Baker, both from the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota, to organize this three-day cultural event. Medrud expressed his gratitude to the International Peace Garden for “allowing the Métis of North America to gather in the Peace Garden to have this International Rendezvous.”
Pingree heritage event Sunday
The Pingree (N.D.) Heritage Foundation is having its annual Pingree Heritage Day Sunday at the town’s Train Depot Museum.
