Large cranes are needed to help set the white steel framework in place at the GRE site. The tall tower crane in the background soars some 250 feet in the air and is operated by an individual sitting in a control room at the top. The operator climbs up and down the crane every day. The somewhat-smaller crane in the background is a Manitowoc 999 crane that can lift 350 tons.
