Sgt. Jacob Bollinger, photographed on Jan. 22 in Valley City, N.D., is the only National Guard soldier to deploy five times since Sept. 11, 2001. Bollinger is a member of the 231st Brigade Support Battalion based out of Valley City Guard members have played a more active role in military operations since 9/11. As of early November, the North Dakota Guard had 19 soldiers who had deployed three times, Willson said.
