Filipino residents take shelter at the provincial capitol as tsunami fears spread through text messages at the coastal city of Tandag, Surigao del Sur, south eastern Philippines early Sunday. The Philippines Tsunami alert level was raised to 2 following the 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Chile. The Philippine Institute of Vulcanology and Seismology issued a low-level alert saying people should await further notice of a possible tsunami. It did not recommend evacuations.
