Paul Hanson, Fargo landfill supervisor, stands Tuesday next to a 50-foot well into the landfill to collect methane gas. His crews have been working to repair broken wells and also re-cover areas they think gas might be escaping from. Though hydrogen sulfide accounts for less than 1 percent of landfill gasses, it's strong odor has caught the attention of many residents.
