Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary members Jackie Sather, left, and Mary Klundt fold an American flag at a flag retirement ceremony Friday at Lincoln Elementary School. while Principal Sherry Schmidt speaks. The flag, which had previously been flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of the school, had flown over the school for seven years. It was replaced with another flag that had been flown over the Capitol in honor of the school. Behind them, from left, are 1st Sgt. Jeff Doughty, Sgt. 1st Class Gary Varberg and Sgt. Jordan Nygaard, members of the North Dakota National Guard’s 817th Engineer Company (Sapper). Also on hand were retired Sgt. Maj. Rod Olin and former prisoner of war Jim Carlascio. The wrong organization was credited for folding the flag under the photo in Tuesday’s Sun.
