This obelisk, shown May 21, is among those overlooking the Minnesota River Valley near Morton erected in memory of those who died in the U.S.-Dakota Conflict of 1862. There are literally hundreds of markers and monuments throughout southwestern Minnesota telling the story of the conflict.
