The northern U.S. is favored for this leg of Comet C/2011 L4 PANSTARRS’ journey. Notice how the comet arcs up higher in the sky compared to the southern U.S. and especially the equator. The comet will remain visible for many weeks. Earth was closest to PANSTARRS on March 5 at 102 million miles. This map was drawn for Duluth, Minn., using Chris Marriott’s SkyMap software.
