Kade Schumacher (left) and Jaxton Wiest (middle) of Jamestown each placed first at the Region 2 Hoop Shoot Contest in Rapid City, S.D., on March 2. Trey Wiest (right) placed second. Schumacher made 23 of 25 free throws to win the 8-9-year old division. Trey Wiest made 22 of 25 to win the 12-13 division. Jaxton Wiest made 21 of 25 to place second in the 10-11 division. Schumacher and Trey Wiest advance to the National Elks Hoop Shoot Contest in Springfield, Mass., April 18-21. Region 2 consists of North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. The national shoot features 72 other participants from 11 regions. The winners will get their names on a plaque in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
