Robert W. Opp, 81, Jamestown, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.
Mr. Opp was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Dawson, N.D., the son of Fred and Grace (Peters) Opp. He attended school in Medina, N.D., and graduated from Medina High School. He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 20, 1950, and served in the Korean conflict. He returned to North Dakota upon his discharge on Aug. 19, 1952. He married Evangeline Haupt June 7, 1957, in Medina. He worked as the maintenance supervisor at Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center, Jamestown, for more than 20 years. She died Jan. 2, 1975. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, James-town. He enjoyed camping, crossword puzzles and model trains.
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Sandy), Jamestown, and Timothy (Lori), Bismarck, N.D.; a daughter, Shari Sahr (Tom Hoffman), Jamestown; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Joel; a daughter, Shelley; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Harlan Kaden officiating.
Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina.
Memorials: in lieu of flowers, to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
